Course Objectives: During the course of our study we will study to comprehend and learn the historical landmarks of graphic design, the important design movements and styles as well as designers through a chronological and regional categorization. The course will evolve with the lectures, discussions on the visual material and presentations. Besides design history with emphasis on the relationship of design with society, technology, politics, nature to the larger cultural context, Turkish graphic design history will also be a subject of this class.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Comprehend the cultural, social, economic and politic significance of graphic design discipline.
2)Become accustomed to the graphic design terminology.
3) Comprehend the historical landmarks of graphic design.
4) Recognize the important design movements and styles as well as designers.
5) Enrich their visual vocabulary by exploring different historical styles.
6) Compare composition, components, and concepts in different graphic design products.
7) Build the background to exhibit critical and syntheizing approach towards today’s graphic design uring conceptual and practical creation.
8) Discuss graphic design with appropriet design concepts and historical information.
