-Understanding accident statistics
-Improving accident precautions
-Evaluating safety improving programmes

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Traffic safety is one of the important engineering issue in the world. This subject aims to provide a background about this issue. Also it provides a very important alternative to students that want to have expertise about road safety.

Course Content

Description of the safety issue, optimum standard concept in safety, programs for safety amendment, and their applications, driver’s expectations in safety design. Determination of inappropriate designs and the methodologies utilized for determination. Design principles in beveling. Design of cross-sectional elements considering safety principles. Design of intersections. Operational analysis. Design measures for illumination systems. Railway crossings. Traffic control and warning requirements. Standards. Measures for safety of road construction and maintenance activities. Traffic signs. Safety principles in the positioning of signs.
