Course Objectives: | This course offers the participant a foundational knowledge of the field of professional ethics, the content of the Code of Ethics of ACA, ASCA, and TPDRD, and the process of ethical decision making. The aim of the course is to contribute to the overall ethical development of the participant. Moreover, issues pertaining to legal responsibilities and liabilities, professional ethical standards and general professional conduct in contemporary society will be considered. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1. Expose the students to ethical, legal, and professional issues involved in the counseling profession and give them a basis for making more informed professional decisions. 2. Provide students with a philosophical basis for making ethical decisions in professional situations they encounter/will encounter. 3. Provide students with an opportunity to discuss ethical, legal, and professional issues involved with counseling. 4. Present students with a number of situations and questions that contain ethical and professional issues they may face as counselors. 5. Analyze those situations and questions in terms of the ethical codes of counseling, and thus, to have students become knowledgeable about the ethical codes of counseling. |
Ethic codes of some profession organizations, the basis of ethic approach, the effect of individual values on the counseling process, the client rights and the responsibility of counselor, legal issues in the field of Counseling and Guidance, making professional decisions suited for ethic codes.
