Course Objectives: The Primary objectives of the ELT1014 include the following:
1. Students will acquire knowledge on speaking skills and strategies, develop their speaking skills both in everyday and academic contexts, and gain knowledge on making an academic presentation.
2. Students will be able to use their critical thinking skills while forming the ideas they want to express.
3. Students will be able to speak publicly both in pair and group work activities.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to,
1. analyze listening and spoken texts.
2. practice some of the features of English oral communication in his/her own speech at a more advanced level.
3. use a wide range of formulaic expressions more frequently to make the English oral communication more natural and fluent.
4.communicate orally in a more fluent and natural way.
5. notice English speech acts and use most of them appropriately.
6. use appropriate expressions and strategies in English oral communication by considering the aim and setting of the speech and the relationship between the interlocutors.

Course Content

Classwork aims to develop effective language use in both formal and informal contexts. Classroom activities take the form of information gap, persuasion, discussion, debate, and role-play as a means of exploiting different types of communication for different purposes. Oral Communication represents the major area of emphasis; for, improving teacher candidates' oral competence in English is an important step towards training effective English language teachers. Students are assessed according to the quality and the delivery of the speeches they prepare.
