Course Objectives: The objectives of the course are to enable students to gain knowledge about information systems and information technologies, fields of health information systems, e-health, e-health applications in Turkey, development of health information systems applications in the world and in Turkey, hospital information systems, knowledge management and ethical and legal issues in information systems; to enable students to gain knowledge and skills for accessing and using scientific information. The aim of the lab practices is to improve students' skills for using MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and to enable students gain knowledge for accessing online scientific sources. It is aimed to develop students' technology management skills.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1.Use information technologies effectively for accessing scientific information.
2.Practice the code of ethics while using information technologies and scientific information.
3.Define the basic concepts of information systems.
4.Define the health information technologies and applications.
5.Compare the developments of health information systems in the world and in Turkey.
6.Explain the use of e-health applications and health information technologies for health prevention and promotion.
7.Explain the use of information technologies for monitoring patients with chronic diseases.
8. Use the internet effectively for accessing scientific sources.
9. Use basic Office programs at good level.
10.Gain skills in technology management

Course Content

This course covers basic concepts of information systems, transition to information society, technology management, health literacy, effective use of internet and computer technologies, informaiton systems used in institutions, health care systems, e-health appliactions, history of e-health in Turkey, Ministry of Health e-health applications and projects, information systems in health services, patient monitoring systems in chronic diseases, hospital information systems, knosledge management and change management in health institutions, ethical issues and security applicaitons in health information systems.
