Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to study the dialogue between architectural theory and practice through criticism to provide a framework for students to operate in the process of thinking about and making architecture as critics and to develop their investigating and writing skills.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. To analyze critical writing and architectural works
2. To propose criteria to evaluate architectural works
3. To critically evaluate and make judgements on architectural works
4. To relate historical and theoretical framework with architectural works

Course Content

The course is taught in a lecture and seminar format. The thematic reading list assigned for the week is to be read before the class and all class members are expected to attend and take part in the discussion sessions. Following a brief introduction by the instructor about the theme of the week, there will be seminar sessions. The following week of the seminar, students are to submit their 600 words theme critiques of their case studies for each assigned thematic reading. As for the completion of the requirements of the class, the critique of a recent building selected together by the student and the instructor is to be written in 2000 words in an academic research paper format.
