Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
• Establishing the relationship between architecture and the city.
• Approaching the built environment as an urban laboratory and critically analyzing it.
• Exploring the dynamics, structures, and processes that shape the urban environment.
• Reading, understanding, and analyzing different layers of the city and transforming them into a network of topological relationships as design input.

Course Content

This course aims to explore the relationship between architecture and the city from various perspectives. The built environment is approached as an "urban laboratory," enabling its critical analysis. The course focuses on uncovering the dynamics, structures, and processes that shape the urban environment while enhancing students' abilities to read, understand, and analyze different layers of the city.
The course is structured as follows: introduction and fundamental concepts, the history of urban design and planning, analysis of urban layers, urban issues and contemporary debates, applied studies and research, and final evaluation. This content aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge while also fostering their ability to critically analyze and apply this knowledge in practice.

Teaching Methods and Techniques Used in the Course:
Lecture, Individual Study, Differentiation, Observation, Group Work, Guest Speaker/Expert Invitation, Reading, Case Study, Discussion, Problem Solving, and Other.
