Course Objectives: This course is designed to provide students the knowledge and skills to build creative, interactive, instructional, and well-designed Web sites. The attempt will be to balance technical skills with artistic skills to create web pages that are conceptually interesting, easily navigable, visually pleasing, and functional.

1. critique a web site in terms of the principles of graphical design,
2. design and maintain a web site by applying the principles of Web and interface design such as usability and accessibility,
3. improve a web site with style sheets, links, tables, multimedia and graphics,
4. demonstrate a knowledge by designing complex web pages using HTML, CSS and JavaScript,
5. explore the effects of browser and computing platform on design choices, and
6. perform typical Web design duties using Dreamweaver.

Course Content

Topics include HTML(5), CSS(3), and JavaScript (syntax, variables, functions and objects). Students will also learn common web tools like Dreamweaver and the use of Photoshop to create or edit images for use in a web site, and an introduction to making movies in Flash. Focus is also placed on usability, accessibility and web standards.
